Edith Mae Watson

September 7, 1928 — March 31, 2023

Edith Mae Watson, 94, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 in a Fort Worth hospital. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 5, at 10 am at First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, followed by her funeral service at 11 am, officiated by Nathan Buchanan. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Watson was born September 7, 1928 in Brazos County to Vernon and Robbie (Morrison) Wilson.  She graduated from Bryan High School and went on to obtain her degree from Hardin-Simmons University.  At HSU she met Clinton Watson, and they were married July 5, 1952 at Central Baptist Church in Bryan.  As Clinton pastored churches and had other Baptist work positions, they raised their family in Bryan, Dallas, Texarkana, and finally in Mineral Wells. In Texarkana, Edith went back to school to become a teacher.  She taught kindergarten and first grade for over 25 years and retired from Mineral Wells ISD in 1994.  Edith served faithfully as a pastor’s wife and enjoyed working with children in Sunday School. She played the piano for church whenever she was needed.  And she loved playing games with family and friends – cards, dominoes, Chicken Foot, and especially Hand and Foot with her church friends.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 55 years, her parents, two brothers, two sisters, a son-in-law Mickey Holliday, and a great-grandson Andrew Wayne Bernard Holliday.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses (who fondly called her Edie):  Elizabeth (Buff) and Billy Moncus of Fort Worth, Rodney and Jana Watson of Abilene, Tom and Denise Watson of Granbury, and Melody and Keith Hull of Hillsboro.  She was “MeMaw” to 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother-in-law Dowe Mayfield of Lubbock, and a sister-in-law Jackie McCrary of Arcadia, Louisiana.

Mrs. Watson’s family is grateful for the compassionate care given by the kind staff of Bristol Park Assisted Living in Cleburne for the last year.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mineral Wells Meals on Wheels.
