Donna Lynn McIntosh Kahn

Donna Lynn McIntosh Kahn, 74, was called to be with her Heavenly Father on June 20, 2022.  She was born August 30, 1947 to Irving and Mary Campbell McIntosh in Anderson County, TX.

 She is survived by her brother-in-law, Glenn Hudson of Mineral Wells; niece (and dear friend) Debra Shoemaker Hanlon and husband, Eddie Hanlon of Mineral Wells; nephew Brian Shoemaker and wife, Cara of Mineral Wells, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister and best friend, Jan Hudson. 

She married John Lawrence Caldwell in 1969, and he survives her.  Her second marriage in 1979 was to Robert Darrell Kahn. They eventually divorced, and he predeceased her in 2008. 

Donna attended Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio for her Freshman and Senior years, graduating in 1965. She also attended Devine High School in her Sophomore and Junior years.  She made many friends at both schools.  She then enrolled at Trinity University in San Antonio, and later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.

After employment at AT&T as an account executive in Austin, she became Deputy Director of Information Technology at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) where she was responsible for a network of 116 prisons, 60 parole offices, personal computers for 43,000 employees and a massive mainframe. In 2008, she retired and moved from Austin to Mineral Wells to be close to her beloved sister, Jan, and extended family.

Those who knew Donna remember a gracious woman who seemed to come into people’s lives just when they needed her. She had a way of spreading positivity and compassion.  She even extended these traits online with a history of dedicated email correspondence with two friends. She kept up with Annell McKenzie of Dallas, after Jan Hanlon’s passing, since Annell and her sister had been such good friends.  She also was a devoted email pen-pal for Sherry Symington of Mountain View, California, her best friend since 5^th grade, after they reconnected in 2015.  She offered Sherry generous support in the loss of her own sister, and they continued a delightful correspondence until Donna’s passing.

She was baptized in 1987 and served in her church as a Sunday School teacher for pre-kindergarten children.

She had great artistic talent, and initially focused several years on ceramics.  But in 2015, she developed a new interest in painting, and showed rapid progress in painting with oil, acrylics, mixed media, and encaustics. She also mastered charcoal drawing. She and her friend Sherry enjoyed taking many online art courses together.  She also delighted in assisting her great nieces in their artistic endeavors—always with kindness and support.  She extended her talents even further when she taught a course on encaustics at the Mineral Wells Art Association.  She also loved to dance.

Her baking was superior and was often requested.  She was often asked to bring brownies for birthdays or her famous Banana Split Cake.  She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Intensive Care Unit at  Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth for their support and words of encouragement during her final days.

A memorial graveside service was held on June 24, 2022 at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells, TX.  A special thanks to Brother John for the memorial service.
