Charles Edward Poole Jr. aka Pa Poole was a beloved
father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was
loved and respected by all who had the privilege of
knowing him.
Charles Edward Poole Jr. was born in the small town of
Davilla, in Milam County, Texas on September 9, 1934, to
Charles and Laura Willis Poole,
Charles’ early childhood began in Davilla, Texas and
continued in Mineral Wells, Texas where he graduated
from Dunbar High School, made a successful career
working at the Baker Hotel as head waiter, and later
acquiring his own business, Murray’s Grill. He finished his
career working for MWISD.
He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where
he was later ordained as a deacon. He also served in the
capacity of Assistant Sunday School Superintendent,
served in the kitchen, and assisted with the Bus Ministry.
Charles was also a loyal member of Mineral Star Lodge
#116.
He served as a Mineral Wells City Councilman; he was
featured in Special Issue Ebony Magazine August 1971 for
African American Entrepreneurs; nominated as
HomeTown Hero of Granger, Texas by his peers; and voted
Grand Marshall by the students at Mineral Wells High
School.
He met his first wife Marelyn Jones who proceed him in
death (1963) This union brought about four sons Charles
Anthony (Toni) Poole, Dennis (Michelle) Poole, Calvin
Poole, and Raymond Poole (Kathy).
Thereafter, Charles married his second wife Jeannie
Pearson. This union would bring three daughters and two
sons: Michaelle (Douglas) Brady, Yvonne (husband, Darrell)
Milton, Kim (Sammie) Chance, Jeffery (Lauretta) Poole and
Jerry (Shekel) Poole.
He leaves to cherish his memories with his siblings: Juanita
“Nita” McCoy, Joe Eddie Poole, and Mildred Small. A host
of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
and a longtime friend Arlene (Dad) Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marelyn Jones;
his parents, Charles, and Laura Poole; sisters Utelia
Magnolia Poole Anders, Ella Mae Gilford, his brothers,
Augusta “Gus” Poole, Pryor Poole, Dussie Poole and Clifton
Poole.
Services are 10 AM Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery.
