Willie M. Nickerson, April 3, 1939 to February 16, 2012, A beloved member of our community Willie M. Nickerson went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2012. Willie was born in Marshall, Texas on April 3, 1939 to Mack Gardner and Pearlie Madden. She moved to Mineral Wells, Texas and married DeArtis Nickerson, Sr. on March 9, 1957. On March 9th, Willie and DeArtis would have celebrated 55 years of holy matrimony. Willie was a devoted wife and a loving mother, Big Granny', sister, aunt, and friend. She loved people and her home was always filled with much love and good cooking. Willie also loved the Lord and she served him faithfully until her death. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was the president of the Senior Mission for over 30 years. Also, she was a past president of Mission I of the Progressive West Texas Baptist District Association. Willie travelled frequently to District, State, and Board meetings where she made many life long friends. One of Willie's favorite activities was shopping; whether it was for household items or clothing. Also, she was a snazzy dresser; this was evident by her fancy hats and suits. She leaves great memories to cherish by her husband, DeArtis Nickerson, Sr., 3 sons: Mitchell (Cherie) Bell, DeArtis Nickerson, Jr., Gabriel (Ida) Nickerson, 3 daughters: Theresa (Darrell) Doyle, Fredia (Willie) Sneed, and Lilly Nickerson. Along with 3 sisters; Dorothy Standifer, Gordie Pearl Martin, Lucille Bowens and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and her Bethel family. Preceding her in death are parents, Mack and Pearlie Gardner; sisters, Gladys Tennison, Marine Hillary-Chaney, Ruby King-Walton and brother, Clarence Gardner. Willie's Homegoing Celebration will be held at First Baptist Church, 100 SW 4th Avenue, Mineral Wells, TX 76067 on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 AT 1:00 PM followed by interment at Woodland Park Cemetery.
