Willie Herbert Casper Jr., 93, passed away June 1, 2014 in a Mineral Wells hospital. He was born April 24, 1921 in Kenly, North Carolina the son of Willie Herbert and Maude Ellen Moore Casper. He married Gertraud Elisabeth Rau "Traudi" on January 8, 1955 in Fayetteville, North Carolina and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2007. He was a retired Colonel in the US Army after 28 years of service. He retired as Deputy Commander of Ft Wolters. He served as the Bank Public Relations Officer of First national Bank for 15 years. He served for many years as a volunteer for Boyce Ditto Public Library and the Mineral Wells ISD. He served as Mayor of Mineral Wells from 1986-1992. Services will be 2 PM Friday, June 6, 2014 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. He is survived by his son: William Otto Casper of Mesquite, granddaughters: Erika Castro of Humble, Jennifer Casper of Mesquite, grandson: Josh Wilburn of Mesquite, brother and sister-in-law: Don W. and Sara Casper of Cary, North Carolina, sister and brother-in-law: June and Charles Cates of Garner, North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews in North Carolina. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
