Vernon Hobart McKimmey

Vernon Hobart McKimmey, Jr. was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, September 16, 1934. At the age of 89, on December 31, 2023, he passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by his daughter and son-in-law and his son and daughter-in-law at Palo Pinto General Hospital.

Vernon was born to Vernon and Pearl McKimmey. He lived in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and then graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas in 1952. He served in the United States Army and earned an associate degree from Arlington State College (now UTA). Vernon met his future wife Anne at church in Fort Worth, and they were married in 1965. They later had two children, Annette and Patrick. Vernon worked at Lockheed Martin (previously known as Convair and General Dynamics) as a technical illustrator for about 40 years. He was extremely intelligent and also talented artistically, musically, and mechanically. His favorite hobby was cars.

Vernon retired earlier than he planned, so that he could be home to provide care for his wife Anne, whose multiple sclerosis had progressed. Vernon exemplified someone who was living out Ephesians 5:25: “Husbands, love your wives, just as also Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her,” serving as caretaker for his wife until she went to be with Jesus in 2004. He loved his family very much and had the spiritual gifts of giving and serving. He also loved singing hymns at church and would even attend hymn singings whenever he could.

Vernon remained active in his later years. He continued in his love for attending church and Sunday school, participating in local political meetings, car club events, and visiting with friends.

He is survived by his daughter Annette Straw and her husband Jeff Straw, and his son Patrick McKimmey and his wife Karla McKimmey.

Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the chapel of Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons International, for worldwide Scripture distribution.
