Vernon E. Kisinger, 63, of Mineral Wells, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 1,2011 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born April 23, 1947 in Bryan, Texas. Vernon enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1965. He attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant during his 20 years of service. During the Vietnam War, Mr. Kisinger completed four combat tours. SMSGT Kisinger was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions as an AC-130 gunship aerial gunner over Southeast Asia on March 11, 1972. He also received the Air Medal with 7 devices, Air Force Commendation Medal, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with device, and numerous other awards. After retirement from the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Kisinger worked on the F-16 Fighter program as a quality assurance inspector at General Dynamics/Lockheed in Fort Worth, Texas until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed family activities, parachuting, and shooting sports. Vernon was an enthusiastic participant in Cowboy Action Shooting. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Louisiana Tech University. Mr. Kisinger was a member of the Masonic lodge in Millsap, Texas. Vernon and Nid Kisinger were married on October 16,1970 in Ubon, Thailand. They have two children Mary A. Kisinger and Vernon E. Kisinger 111., both of Mineral Wells, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon E. and Paula Vaughn Kisinger. Vernon Kisinger is survived by his wife and children, three siblings, Mark D. Kisinger and his wife Ronda, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Sue Winn and her husband Pete, Paul B. Kisinger and his wife Melody all of Seymour, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Services will be 11 AM Saturday, March 5, 2011 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with Gary Godkin officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. The pallbearers will be Eddie Kisinger, Mark Kisinger, Bryan Kisinger, Cole Chandler, John Pribyla, and Bryan Studer. Donations may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in his memory.
