Tommie Janet Smith

Tommie Janet Smith, 98, passed away August 14, 2016 in Carrolton surrounded by her family. She was born March 27, 1918 in Brock the daughter of Thomas Oscar and Lennie Mae Jones Smith. She married Furman Sandpher Smith on April 4, 1934 in Santo. She had lived in Mineral Wells since 1952 and in the New Salem Community prior to that. She was baptized in August 2008 along with her grandson Allan Smith and wife Carolyn and their three children in the Brazos River across from where three of her children were born. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene for many years and joined the church on May 12, 2013. She was affectionately called Snooks by her grandpa Smith and that name stayed with her for her entire life. She was the oldest of 6 children. Services will be 2 PM Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 1-2 PM at the church prior to the service. She is survived by her children: Pauline Jewell of Auburn, Maine, Jo Smith of Mineral Wells, grandchildren and spouses: Ricky and Abby Smith, Darrell and Cindy Smith, Allan and Carolyn Smith, Pam Wilson, Tim Jewell, Connie and Ross Kinsey, Tim and Deanna Stephens, James and Mysti Soule', 18 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Pete and Wayne Smith, sister Betty Lee Saunders, 2 baby brothers, husband on April 26, 1976, son: Bennie Smith on July 26, 1980, daughter: Betty Sue Stephens Soule' on June 8, 1996, granddaughter: Patricia Stephens, great-grandson: Charles Allen Smith on December 14, 1990, and sons-in-law: L. D. Smith in 2007, David Jewell in 2015, Ralph Stephens in 1975, and Jim Soule' in 1983.
