Thelma Flora Lee Jackson Simmons, 89, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at her home in Mineral Wells. Services are 1 PM Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 6-7 PM at Bethel Baptist Church. Sister Simmons, as she is known throughout the community, was an unselfish, untiring community worker. She was affiliated with the Senior Center, Dunbar Neighborhood Council, Eastern Star Lodge, Red Hat Club, Palo Pinto Retired Teachers Association, and the Silver Notes singers. She was an ardent fan of all activities of the Mineral Wells ISD. For 54 years she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Musician and choir director was her faithful service for 54 years. She also served as Musician for Progressive West Texas District Association for four decades. She leaves to mourn her passing "Her Daughter In Heart" Holly Hoover of Lone Camp, adopted daughters: Ella Mae Johnson of San Angelo, Lillie Pearl Nickerson and Shirley Heath both of Mineral Wells, adopted grandson: Michael Brown of Mineral Wells, a host of adopted daughters, sons, nieces, and nephews, step nephews and nieces: Mark Poole, Joe Eddie Poole, Damon Poole, Kevin Poole, Billy Poole, Elgin Poole (deceased), Elgina Goodacre, and Karen Barnett, special friends: Jo Ann Hamilton, Naomi Smith, and Willie Nickerson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
