Sloan Tarleton Taliaferro went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2015 at John Peter Smith Hospital as the result of a tragic accident at his home. He may have left this life, but never our hearts. Sloan T. was born to Brandon and Christy Taliaferro on December 2, 1998 and was loved from before the moment he arrived. Sloan was the grandson of Janice "Nana" and Jim Bob "Paw Paw" Moore of Santo and Tee "Papa Tee" and Tomye "Mama Two" Taliaferro of Mineral Wells, as well as the great-grandson of Billie Smith, also of Mineral Wells. He was welcomed into Heaven by great-grandparents Tommy "Pop" Smith, Barney "Old Paw" Halliburton and Jean "Nanny Goat" Halliburton, and Charlie B. "Paw" Taliaferro and Lorene "Granny" Taliaferro. Sloan leaves behind his family, a legion of friends and brothers of the heart, and a girlfriend with whom he was very much in love. We will all miss him deeply; everyone whose life he touched was enriched by his generous, funny, kind spirit. Sloan had friends of all ages and never met a stranger. Sloan was passionate about hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, and training horses. He often spent time hunting and fishing with his grandfathers and Dad and loved every minute of it. He was also spoiled unconditionally by his Mom, Nana, and Mama Two. Sloan was a member of the SHS Band and Jazz Band, where he played tuba and honed his jazz guitar skills, though he was a natural musician. He and his Paw Paw, along with friend Scotty Overcash, spent an entire summer training horses and he was a natural at that, too. Sloan loved the FFA and was a very active member who was passionate about the values the organization promoted. He wore his blue jacket with pride. But out of all of this, he loved his truck. Sloan spent every waking hour working on it, thinking about it, and trying to convince his parents that he needed "just one more part". A celebration of Sloan's life will be held at the Santo ISD gymnasium on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Konnor Barron, Coy Clower, Kevin Barron, D. Boyd, and Hunter Fuller. In lieu of flowers or food, the family asks for donations to the Sloan Taliaferro Memorial Scholarship Fund that will be set up at First National Bank of Santo.
