Shayla Mae Dickson passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her home on January 8, 2016. She courageously fought against breast cancer for the past 3 years never losing her spirit or faith.Visitation will be Friday January 15, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Baum Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells, TX. Services will be held on Saturday January 16, 2016 at 10:00 am at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, TX.Shayla Mae Dickson was born on August 12, 1984 in Mineral Wells, TX. She graduated from Millsap High School in 2002, and received an Associate's Degree from Weatherford College. In 2006 Shayla gave birth to the greatest gift from God, her son Major Adkins on March 17, 2006.On October 23, 2010 she married the love of her life, Derrad Dickson.Shayla is survived by her husband, Derrad Dickson; son, Major Adkins; parents, George and Dawna Martin; In-laws, David and Mary Dickson; grandparents, Sharon Masterson, Diann Masterson, and Doris Martin; sisters, Sonja Hornback and husband Lee, Elizabeth Butler and husband Ryan, Darcy Martin, Kandice Cogburn and husband Donal; brother, Ryan Powell and wife Megan, sister-in-law, Sierra Dickson; Aunts, Laronda Lee and husband Michael, Tina Ralls and husband Richard, Cathy Johnson and husband Ronnie, Connie Bitters and husband David, Darla McKinney and husband Rick; cousins, Blake and Jennifer Ralls, Jorge and Kendall Zermeno, Josh Ralls, Seth Lee, Connor and Reagan McKinney, Taylor and Garrett Bitters, Clint and Jamie Dobyns, Brent and Brittany Johnson; nieces and nephews, Noel Butler, Jena and Jase Radford, Caleb and Connor Scoggin, Justin Hornback, Dylan and Taiah Cogburn, Emry and Easton Ralls, and Gabe Knoop.Preceded in death by Wilbur "Papa" Masterson, Uncle Ricky Robbins, and Great Grandma Gertie Masterson.To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.There are not enough words to describe how precious Shayla was. She touched so many lives. Her selflessness and courageousness was an inspiration to not only the people who were blessed to know her, but the people who knew of her. She was kind and thoughtful and always put others first. Her positive spirits and quick witted responses kept her friends and family smiling and laughing. Shayla never let things or situations define her, she was faithful in knowing everything happened for a reason and she held her head high. She was loving and caring to everyone she met, which in return gave them hope. Shayla was an inspiration. She inspires the living to be good to their neighbors, to strive for what success really means, and Shayla keeps hope alive.We wish to extend our gratitude and appreciation for the loving care of Shayla to Dr. Page and his caring staff at The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders of Weatherford, TX.Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, she became a Butterfly...
