Retired Command Sergeant Major Samuel N. Hite, "Granddaddy", 88, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Baylor All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, TX.Sam was born November 6, 1922 in Waverly Kentucky to the late Lucille Johnson Hite, step-mother Teresa Hite and Henry Herman Hite. He married Mary Magdalene Buchek on July 13, 1949. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and retired after 32 years of dedicated service. He fought in World War II, Korea and Vietman. Sam was highly decorated and was awarded the Medal of Valor and the Purple Heart. He loved being with family and friends and was a man of wit and wisdom, a generous, kind soul. Sam was preceeded in death by his wife of 29 years, Mary Magdalene Hite, 50, son Harold Herman Hite, age 52 siblings, Paul Hite, Jack Hite and Eloise. Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Puckett and husband, Phillip, of Ft. Sill, OK, Teri Lummus and husband, Lucky, of Arlington, and sons Thomas Hite and wife, Brenda, of Kennedale, David Hite and wife, Sue, of Brownsboro; grandchildren, Jeffery Gilmore, Tabatha Haun, Thomas Hite, Jr., Jason Hite, and Courtney Lummus. He also leaves behind 7 great grandchildren and sister June Black.Visitation and Rosary will be held at 5:30 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home, 302 West Hubbard Street, Mineral Wells.Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 4 beginning at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Internment immediately following mass at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Sam's memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 108 N.W. 4th Avenue, Mineral Wells.
