Sam W. Spear, 72, of Henderson, Nevada went to be with the Lord on 27-May-2017. He was on a road trip visiting family and friend throughout the southwest when he became ill. He had battled a respiratory illness for the last year; fiercely fighting but passing gently and peacefully with his wife and family at his side. Sam was born 19-July-1944 in the Crazy Water Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas, a few months before his father left for combat duty in WWII. Sam and his three siblings were raised old-school style. There was lots of love and attention accompanied by discipline, values, and reverence to the Lord. Sam's career covered an expanse of various construction, mining, and business adventures throughout the world. Wherever Sam worked, he was always the center of whatever the job entailed. No one ever wondered who was in charge or where to go with questions. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Dovie Spangler Spear, mother Clara Gene Whatley Spear of Alvin, Texas, brother Dave Spear (Elgie) of San Diego, California, sisters VeeCee Spear of Elgin, Texas and Bette Robertson (Norman) of Alvin, Texas, sons Sam Spear, Jr. (Tonya) of Thompson, North Dakota, Shane Spear of Elgin, Texas, and Jim Cox of Weatherford, Texas, daughters Shenea Cox Hawkins of Weatherford, Texas and Wendi Cox Bowes (Roydon) of Edmond, Oklahoma, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many other family members and a host of friends. He was proceeded in death by his father David L. Spear, Granny Bert, and great-grandson Bentley Cohron. His allegiance to the Lord and the Baptist church reflected Sam's nature of total commitment and participation in all that he did. Heaven has a new resident who is a great example of those following Christ. Arrangements are being provided by Baum-Carlock-Bumgardener Funeral Home located at 302 W. Hubbard St. Mineral Wells, Texas. Viewing will be Friday, June 2 from 6-8pm. Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells located at 100 SW 4th Ave. at 10am on Saturday, June 3. An additional celebration of life will be held with his Nevada family and friends at a later date.
