Sam Poynor, 71, passed away April 2, 2010 at his residence in Mineral Wells. He was born April 4, 1938 in Millsap the son of Samuel and Opal Blakeney Poynor. He married Virginia Ann Jenkins on November 9, 1958 in Poteet. He worked for JC Penny for 15 years as manager of the shoe department. He owned the Peter Pan Day Care and the Poynor Tree Land Nursery. He led the music at 11th Avenue Church for many years and loved singing. Services will be 2 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 11th Avenue Church with Rev. Scott Poynor and Rev. Charles Mays officiating. Burial will follow in Poe Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. He is survived by his children and spouses: Tammy and Mark Bryant, Scott and Becky Poynor, and Kenny and Jeana Poynor all of Mineral Wells, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way, brother and sister-in-law: Stan and Nona Poynor of Weatherford, sisters and brothers-in-law: Kathleen and Burt Eahart of Plano, Modena and Raymond King of Granbury, Mary and Fred Sears of Poolville, step-brother: Dale King of Godley, and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-dad: Elmer King, his wife on May 7, 2009, brothers: Kenny Poynor and Stevie King, step-brother: Wayne King, and his sister: Wanda Doane just 2 days before him.
