Ruby Jean Anders Greer

April 6, 1945 — September 6, 2023

Ruby Jean Anders Greer was born on April 6, 1945 to Frank Anders Jr. and Ruby Lee Wert Anders in Point, Texas.   Her parents relocated to Mineral Wells, Texas when she was 6 months old in order to pursue a better life.  Ruby was the fifth of six children born to her parents.  She graduated valedictorian from Dunbar High School in Mineral Wells Texas in 1963.  After high school, she worked at the Baker Hotel in many capacities.  She later moved to California to further her education.  She returned to Mineral Wells and began working at Fort Wolters Army Base in 1966 for the Corps of Engineers.  She would enjoy a 42 year career in the federal government before retiring in 2008.

While working at Fort Wolters, she met Matt Greer who was a US Army Sergeant and Helicopter Mechanic.  The two married in 1968. To that union, two children were born Ardina Greer Washington and Matt Greer, Jr.   Ruby would later transfer to the Corps of Engineers Fort Worth Office, and for over 30 years she drove approximately 100 miles each day round trip to work.  She was a dedicated employee and would retire as a Budget Analyst.

She enjoyed listening to music and spending time with friends and family.  She especially loved visiting with her grandchildren Marisa, Madisen, PJ, Bianka, and great nephews Isaiah, Jordan, and Joshua.  An annual highlight for her was attending family reunions and fellowshipping with her family and friends on holidays.  She was a dedicated lifelong member of Mount Olive AME Church where she served as stewardess, choir member, steward and trustee.  She also served in the Women’s Missionary Society.

Ruby was also a member of Heroines of Jericho and the Golden Circle Consistory which provided her the opportunity to travel around the country with her husband and brother, Levon.  She was a very generous person and a cheerful giver who went to the bosom of God on the morning of Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Anders, Jr. and Ruby Anders; paternal grandparents, Frank Anders, Sr. and Sally Givens Anders; maternal grandparents, Lewis Wert and Ardina Smith Wert; siblings, Levon Anders, Levester Anders, Roy Chester Anders, Carol Ann Anders Jefferson; nephew, Clevon Anders; niece, Opal Anders Johnson.
