Roy Eldon "Don" Burkhalter, 50, passed away November 16, 2011 at his home in Mineral Wells. He was born April 24, 1961 in Weatherford the son of Alton and Royce Elaine Lamkin Burkhalter. He married Nettie Harvey on July 9, 1988 in Mineral Wells. He was a lifetime resident of Parker and Palo Pinto Counties and a Deacon and very active member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Whitt Masonic Lodge # 624 and the Mineral Wells Kiwanis Club. He owned and operated the Brazos Sundown Crematory for the past 2 years and worked at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home for several years as a Funeral Director prior to that. He had his pilot's license and was able to take his son flying. He graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor's of Business Degree, from Letourneau University with a Master's of Business Degree, and from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service with an Associate's of Mortuary Science Degree. He won the first year of the Crazy Womanless Beauty Pageant as Mrs. Rowena Lambchop. Don was a great husband, son, brother, a very loving and patient father, and an inspiration to all he met. He loved and supported his community and will be greatly missed. Services will be 10 AM Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. David Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife: Nettie Burkhalter of Mineral Wells, son: Donovan Burkhalter of Mineral Wells, parents: Alton and Royce Elaine Burkhalter of Mineral Wells, brothers and sisters and spouses, Colleen and Dennis Arnold of Garner, Jim and Sharon Burkhalter of Millsap, Dani and David Arnold of Weatherford, father-in-law: Marvin Harvey of Mineral Wells, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Roland and Kim Harvey of Benbrook, Walter and Susan Harvey of Dallas, and numerous other family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 3301 N. Freeway, Ft. Worth, TX 76107 ATTN: Palo Pinto County Relay for Life in his memory.
