During the early hours of April 17, 2022 Robbie Dean Rushing peacefully entered into God's Heavenly Kingdom.
Robbie was born August 4, 1937, the son of Otis Earl Rushing and Zelma Ione Wills (Reeves), in Knox City, Texas. He grew up just as many rural Texas children do by learning and loving the farm life. He knew how to raise a garden and take care of numerous animals. He often shared many memories of "Big Momma", his beloved grandmother.
Robbie went to high school in Azle, Texas and then enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of seventeen, just barely passing the weight requirement.
After his time in the service, Robbie began his career in the food service industry. He managed several successful locations of the Tottle House Restaurant chain. Robbie also designed, managed and successfully ran a resort at Lake Palestine in Tyler, Tx. Robbie was mostly known for his dedicated career of twenty-five years at the Cattle Baron Steakhouse in Aledo, Texas. As a retiree, he happily worked for an additional ten years in the deli department at the Hudson Oaks Walmart.
Robbie married Golda (Jean) Sergent on February 11, 1971 and they lived a life of cooking, gardening, laughter, and loving their family until Jean's passing in 2007. Robbie and his very special life-long friend, Comella Brown, also built a life together that focused on family and their dog Chauncey.
He believed in the Lord, and was an ordained minister, happily and proudly officiating many marriage ceremonies for his children, grandchildren, and close friends.
Robbie was a dedicated and generous family man. He would be the first to help anyone that he loved, even if that meant he would do without.
Robbie made an impact and a memorable impression on the hearts of those around him. He loved to pull silly jokes and laugh. He will be sorely missed by those that were blessed enough to know and love him.
Robbie is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Rushing and Zelma Ione York (Wills) Reeves; wife, Jean Rushing; daughter and son-in-law, Rex and Dalene Mabry; son, David Armstrong; son-in-law, Edward Tucker; and cousin, James White
He is survived by Comella Brown (and Chauncey); son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Kelly Rushing; daughter, Sheila Tucker; sisters, Sandra McVeigh and Marlene Miller; brothers, Larry Rushing, Jerry Rushing, and Terry Rushing; and cousin, Gilbert Smith. Additional family, Lisa, Sherry, Jackie, and Tony; and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Robbie's life will be held at Indian Creek Cemetery in Mineral Wells, Texas on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2pm.
