Rex L. Mansell, 91, left this world on April 13, 2025 to join the Lord and his beloved wife, Jean Mansell. Born on April 11, 1934, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to William J. Mansell and Velma V. Gosnell, Rex lived a life filled with love, faith, and hard work.
From the young age of nine, when he carried Jean’s books home from school, Rex knew she was the one he would marry. That dream became a reality on January 1, 1952, when the two eloped in Henrietta, Texas, exchanging vows late at night in the home of an elderly justice of the peace. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Rick Mansell and wife Linda, Lisa Gourley Welch and husband Don, and Randy Mansell and wife Terri.
Rex worked in construction, leaving his mark on projects such as the dam in Branson, Missouri, and the rounded walkway at the entrance of Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. But his true passion was the business he and Jean built together. On July 4, 1978, they opened D&S Cycle in Arlington, Texas, running it side by side for 40 years before purchasing Rolling M Ranch. It was there that Rex’s love for mules and wagons took root. For years, he could be found hitching up his mules for a wagon ride into town, often stopping for a soda pop and candy bar. His most memorable journey came in 2008, when he and Jean, along with some dear friends took their wagon and mules all the way to Frederick, Oklahoma.
Rex leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and love that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Jean Mansell; his son, Ricky Mansell; his grandson, Tyler Mansell; his son-in-law and friend, Royce Gourley; and his parents, William and Velma Mansell.
He is survived by his five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory. A special thanks to his dear friend, caregiver, Rueann Mowles, along with her family, and to his friend, Coralee Roach, for their love and support. A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice.
