In Loving Memory of Rene James
Rene passed away, Thursday December 9, 2021 at the age of 82. He was born in Pitkin, Louisiana on December 31, 1938. He graduated from Pitkin High School and moved to Orange, Texas where he met the love of his life Evelyn (Jeannie)Walston. They married on June 2, 1961 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Rene and Jeannie settled in Mineral Wells when he was drafted by the army in 1961. After his service ended, he worked at CanTex for 30 years where he had a smile and kind word for everyone.
Rene was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells where he taught young boys Sunday school classes and served as a deacon. Rene’s deep faith was the foundation of who he was and how he lived his life. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the city of Mineral Wells for over 20 years and coached Little League and Pony League baseball.
Rene was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed country music, playing the guitar, breakfast with his Wednesday morning church buddies, the Texas Rangers and spending time with his family. Rene treasured his lifelong friendships made at church, as well as work.
Rene is survived by his wife Jeannie, daughter Leigh Anne (Phillip), son Greg (Debbie), grandchildren Chandler James, Cameron James, Bailey Baker, Kelsie Baker, Brandi Baker, Collin Hickman and Nicky Hickman, great grandchildren Rylend James, Rylee James, Reid James and Wyatt Stegman, brother Talmadge James (Edna) and numerous extended family members.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, December 13, 2021 at First Baptist Church Mineral Wells. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will follow at Staggs Prairie Cemetery.
