Raymond August Thorman, 91, passed away at home on January 19, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Services will be Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the North Oak Church of Christ. Visitation will be Thursday January 21, from 5-7 pm at Baum- Carlock- Bumgardner Funeral Home. Raymond was born on October 26, 1924 in Iowa Park, Texas to Herbert August and Grace Goad Thorman. He married the love of his life, Zella Mae Lyles, on January 9, 1943. He departed a few months later to fight for his country in World War II with the Army Air Corps. Fortunately, he returned from the war a few years later and followed in his father's footsteps and became a Naturopathic doctor. They settled in Glen Rose, where he worked for Dr. Milling, at the Milling Sanitarium. In 1952, Raymond received an offer to come to Mineral Wells to work for Dr. Claude Irving at his Sanitarium. They moved to Mineral Wells in July. After the Sanitarium closed, he went to work at Electra Mfg Co. and worked there until it closed in 1995 as Philips Components. Raymond had the most wonderful sense of humor, and impeccable old fashioned manners. He was a compassionate and modest man who loved his family, his friends, his country, football and telling jokes. He truly was one of the "Greatest Generation". He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Raymond Lee Thorman, and his brothers, Fred L. Thormann and James H. Thorman. Raymond is survived by his wife of 73 years, Zella Thorman, his daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Rodney Henderson, granddaughter and husband, Jill and Landon Horton, and great granddaughters, Lucy, Violet and Sawyer Horton. Memorials may be made to Foster's Childrens Home in Stephenville, Texas or the North Oak Church of Christ
