Raymond D Sherley

Raymond Dale Sherley, 73, passed away in Mineral Wells, Tx on February 22,2024.  He was born February 9,1951 in Lubbock, Tx to James and Laura (Myers) Sherley.  The family moved to Mineral Wells, Tx in 1966.  He served in the United States Army from 1969 - 1971 as an M.P. and returned home to Mineral Wells after the end of his enlistment. 

Raymond had been married three times, but he did not have any children of his own. He had numerous nieces and nephews that he loved to pester. He worked in the oil field for a few years until he was injured in a debilitating work accident and was unable to work for several years. Later, once recovered, he held various jobs. Employed with the City of Mineral Wells, Concept, Inc., CCA and several other companies working security.  He obtained his jailers license and worked for TDCJ until his health declined.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Laura Sherley, oldest brother James Sherley and youngest sister Kim Staley. He is survived by his older brother David Sherley and wife Judy of Broken Arrow, OK, oldest sister Jannie Kimber of Mineral Wells, Tx, sister-in-law Vicki Sherley wife of James Sherley of Mineral Wells and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald Sherley, Tony Sherley, Christi (Sherley) Murphy and husband Joe, David Kent Sherley, James Lenamon and wife Melanie, Gary Ray Lenamon, Jason Turner, Rebecca (Turner) Hughes and her husband Dennis along with all their children and grandchildren. We cannot forget his best friend Wayne Spurlin and his wife Joy who were Raymonds extended family and were always there if needed.  The family thanks you for being a loyal friend to Raymond all these years. 

Visitation will be Friday March 1st from 5-7pm at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home.  Graveside service will be at the New Hope Cemetery in Lone Camp, Tx, Saturday March 2nd, 2024 at 10am with Gregg Phillips officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Spurlin, David Sherley, James Lenamon, Gary Ray Lenamon, Donald Sherley, and Jordan Lenamon.
