Our sweet “Mom and Nane” Peggy Elaine Hughes, 80, of Mineral Wells went home to be reunited with her lost loved ones, but will be in our hearts for all of eternity. Peggy passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17th, 2024. She touched everyone that had the blessing of meeting her. Her beautiful smile lit up every room she was in. She was so pure and full of happiness. Peggy will forever be remembered as a true angel. We love you so much Nane until we meet again. Anyone who knew Peggy knew she loved her some Elvis; we are sure she’s jamming with Elvis.
Peggy was born October 24, 1943, in San Antonio, TX, to Floyd and Lois Scott. Later in life, in 1961 she had her first of 5 children whom she loved very much. In 1984, Peggy became Nane to the first of several grandchildren and in 2010 became a great-grandmother to the first of many.
Peggy leaves behind many who thought the world of her and is survived by her brother, Jack Scott and wife Virginia; her sister, Mary; her children, Patricia Gates, Michael and Rose Gates, Bo and Tama Gates, Tony and Angie Gates, and David W. Gates Sr.; by her grandchildren, James Grulich, David Wayne Gates Jr., David Shaun Gates, and Michaela Gates, and Matthew Diaz, and (Doodles) Jerry Harrison Jr.; great-grandchildren Braelyn Dawson, Ayden Grulich, Deannah, Delaina, Braxton and Treyton Gates, Skylin Hammons and Addie Diaz; many close family friends, Katie Housley and kids Haley, Megan and Hunter, Paige and Alex Lopez, Jennifer Copeland, Amy Orr, Destiney Landingham and many other friends and family.
Peggy was a cook for many years at Dairy Mart, she then went to work as a cook at Jesses Drive Inn where she later retired after many years. Anyone who visited Jesses when Peggy worked there knew she made the best burgers and enchiladas in town.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; her grandsons, David W Gates Jr and Doodles; and her lifelong best friend, Linda Qualls Beaird.
