On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Paula Diane Cason Winburn Fina, went to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her loving family in a Fort Worth hospital.
Diane was born on January 25, 1948 in Exeter, California to Paul Richard Cason and Mary Jean (Rice) Cason. She was the second of 8 children. The family later moved “home” to Mineral Wells, TX and Diane graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1966. Despite her small stature, Diane excelled on the basketball court and was inducted into the Mineral Wells High School Hall of Fame. She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Wayne Winburn on April 12, 1967. That union brought them 5 beautiful children who they raised in the Mineral Wells area.
On December 31, 1988, Diane married Theodore (Ted) Fina. Together, they traveled often to New York and other fun parts of the country and beyond. Their life was full of family, adventure, and laughter. Ted preceded Diane in death on February 8, 2020.
Diane owned The Monogram Shop in Mineral Wells for several years when her kids were young. After that, she worked for the city of Mineral Wells as a dispatcher and then in criminal investigation. One of Diane’s favorite pastimes was gardening. There was not a hole too big for tiny Diane to dig! She planted the entire countryside around her home in beautiful landscapes for her family to enjoy. Holidays and get togethers were often held “in Palo Pinto” at Ted and Diane’s. The land gave all the grandkids a place to roam around and continue the tradition of what Diane considered her biggest accomplishment – her beautiful family. Other favorite pastimes included putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing Backgammon with her sisters, and taking a little road trip to Winstar for a chance at winning big. Diane also had a fondness for Fox News.
Diane’s greatest joy came from her pride in her enormous family. She loved her family fiercely and we all felt loved and protected by her. Her 11 grandkids will carry with them fond memories of spending time out at Grandma Diane’s. Diane was as loving as she was ornery. She was tiny, but fierce, and we loved her as deeply as she loved all of us. We will all miss her smile and quirky anecdotes, but will enjoy retelling our many stories we shared with her until we see her again. Diane is preceded in death by her parents Paul Richard Cason and Mary Jean Cason, siblings Paul Richard Cason, Jr., Paul Daniel Cason, and her loving husband Ted Fina. She is survived by her siblings Susan Cason Price and husband Ray, Tim Cason and wife Kathy, Cathy Cason and husband Jake Baugh, Paul Cason and wife Elva, Jennifer Coy and husband Matt; her children Stephanie Williams and husband Richard, Kenneth Winburn and wife Belinda Joy, Brian Winburn and wife Aimee, Seth Winburn and wife Lindsay, Carlos Winburn, Mona Lee Fina Kreutziger and husband Mark, and Ted Fina, Jr.; grandchildren Brittany Pike and husband Matt, Alex Winburn, Hannah Brauer, Rachel Winburn, Samuel Winburn, John “Tony” Fitch, Jr., Clara Winburn, Jordan Winburn, Benjamin Winburn, Amber Everett, and Annalise Winburn; great-grandchildren Hazel Brauer, Maddysyn Pike, Iyzabella Pike, Sofia Gonzales, Kaiysyn Pike, Paxton Pike, and Penelope Jean Pike, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 10:00am at Baum-Carlock- Bumgardner Funeral Home Chapel in Mineral Wells, Texas. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.
