Norma Jean Porter Yates

Norma Jean Porter Yates, 64 went home to be with her Lord on Monday, April 4, 2016. She is at peace and reunited with the love of her life and the family and friends that were called home before her.She was born November 28, 1951 in Decatur, TX to Norman Douglas Porter and Tommye Jean Edmondson Porter. Norma always created a sparkle in her parent's eyes, and followed their ways in her own life becoming a loving wife, mother, grandmother, educator and a mentor to many. Her passion for her faith and family came first. Her love of children went far beyond her own family as she earned a Master's degree from Tarleton State University and had a career in education, becoming a teacher, principal and finally a Superintendent. She treated all of her students as they were her own children. She fought to keep the school in Palo Pinto open and was instrumental in having a new school built before retiring. Her life became more complete on November 21, 2014 when her granddaughter, Teagan was born and she was able to shower her with the love that she had given to so many others. She will be missed more than words can express, but Heaven has been blessed with a perfect angel.She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy Michael Yates, parents Norman Douglas Porter and Tommye Jean Edmondson Porter and brother Norman Douglas Porter, Jr. She is survived by her children, Robert Douglas Freeman of Aledo, TX, daughter Shelby Genz, husband Wes Genz and granddaughter, Teagan Jean Genz of Weatherford, TX. Step-son, Michael Yates and wife Tracy of Austin, TX. Brother, Gary Allen Porter and wife, Carla of Palo Pinto, TX. A celebration of life will be held at First Christian Church of Mineral Wells, Thursday April 7, 2016 at 11:00 am. The family welcomes all family and friends that were touched by their angel.
