Nelda Ruth Fidler, 93, went home to her Heavenly Father on November 17, 2023. Nelda was a woman who loved her Lord and served Him faithfully throughout her life. She also loved her family and was well-loved by her family.
Nelda was born on June 23, 1930, to William Walker and Velma Belle Justice at home near Whitt, Texas and grew up in the Perrin / Whitt area. She graduated from Perrin High School in 1948, worked at the box factory in Mineral Wells for some months, and then married the love of her life, Claud Fidler, on November 24, 1948. Together they began a beautiful family as they moved around the country while Claud worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone. In 1955, the family settled in Mineral Wells. An accomplished cook and seamstress, Nelda saw well to the needs of her growing family. While the boys were still in school, Nelda began college. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education and accepted a position as a kindergarten teacher in the MWISD where she taught for twenty years. After the boys were grown, she and Claud began traveling in their RV. Together they traveled to Alaska and all of the contiguous states except one. In later years they spent summers in Stonewall, Colorado and winters at South Padre Island where they made many dear friends. Nelda was known by family and friends alike for her delicious pecan pies and peach cobblers. A gathering was not complete without at least one.
