Nancy Fletcher

Nancy Irene Davis Fletcher passed quietly from this earth into the presence of her Lord on Thursday, October 10, 2019 being 77 years, 8 months, 16 days of age, after a brave battle with cancer. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 14 at Baum-Carlock-Bumbardner Funeral Home with William Eudy officiating. Burial will be at Grantham Cemetery, Salesville. Nancy was born January 24, 1942 in Salesville, Texas to parents Clarence Wilson and Beulah Modene (Purefoy) Davis. She was the youngest of three girls, Sarah Frances, Celia Ann and Nancy Irene. She was a young child when the family moved to West Texas following Daddy's work and finally making Levelland, Texas our home base. Daddy built our first home in 1948. Nancy grew into a lovely young woman working and caring for her family and those in need. Through the years she cared for family members and friends when ill and after surgery. Besides being a very good cook with the ability to make something out of nothing, she had an artistic side learning to crochet when very young, sewing and later turned to painting. Nancy attended school and graduated in 1960 from Levelland High School making many life-time friends. After school Nancy worked at First National Bank in Levelland and later worked for SBC Telephone and American State Bank in Lubbock, Texas. Nancy met Weldon Fletcher when he returned home from Germany and discharged from the Army. They were married August 1, 1964 in Levelland and Nancy became a farmer's wife in Crosbyton. They were blessed with three children, Darren Wilson, Shannon Irene and Lee Franklin. Years later they left the farm, living in Cosbyton a short time. There Nancy worked for Wake Gin as bookkeeper for two seasons, Crosbyton National Bank and Jung and Marley Law Office. They then moved to Snyder until they retired in 2003. Nancy worked for TDCJ-Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division, Parole Board. Upon retirement they moved to Mineral Wells to be more centrally located to their children. There they became integrated into the community attending Southside Church of Christ. Nancy participated in Mineral Wells Women's Club holding the office of treasurer. She was a member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas Solomon Bostick Chapter holding office as secretary; and member of The United Daughters of the Confederacy Major George B. Erath 2679 Chapter. Nancy and her sister Sarah became engrossed in genealogy making trips all over Texas, southern Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and two trips to Alabama, crossing the Chattahooche River into Georgia just because we wanted to; spending hours in courthouses delving into records and walking miles in cemeteries; learning and securing documents to apply to The Daughters of the Republic of Texas for membership. On maternal side learning we were seventh generation Texan through the Butler surname and on the paternal side we were sixth generation through the Hughes surname. Nancy researched and completed applications to The United Daughters of the Confederacy to honor our Purefoy, Tarkington, Grubbs, Moore, Fondren and Butler ancestors for their sacrifice and service. Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Weldon Fletcher of Mineral Wells; her three children, Darren Wilson Fletcher and wife Kris of Watauga, TX, Shannon Irene Ford and husband Jerry of Santo, TX, Lee Franklin Fletcher and wife Angela of Crandall, TX; five grandchildren Kelsi Nichole Miller and husband Austin of Chicago, IL, Davis Wilson Fletcher of Arlington, TX, Augustus Gus' Fletcher of Crandall, TX, Colin Henderson of Crandall, TX, Colby Henderson of Tarrant County, TX; sister Sarah Frances Staggs of Whitesboro, TX; nieces Diane Hollingsworth and Audrey Yurcheshen; nephew Barton Yeary; and several cousins. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, sister Celia Ann Yeary, brother-in-law James Yeary and brother-in-law H. T. Sonny' Staggs.
