Michael D. Pierce

November 12, 1935 — January 1, 1900

My beloved husband and best friend entered into eternity at 7:00 am Wednesday, 28 July 2010. Cancer claimed his life, but not his soul. He passed away peacefully at home, following a long illness. Throughout time he was a mighty warrior who knew how to fight bravely, and he did just that until the end came. He will be grievously missed by all of the many people that loved him, especially by me, his wife, Shirley Marie Johnson-Pierce. People have said he is in a much better place, but his happiest and best place was at my side. I will deeply miss him. Army Major Dayle Pierce entered into the National Army National Guard when he was only a youthful lad of fourteen years of age. He was born November 12, 1935 in Woodward, OK. His love and commitment to serving our country while in the Armed Forces led him into many wars throughout the thirty-four year career that so well favored his character. While in Vietnam he served as a Fighter Pilot. Aviation was his greatest and most fond love. He transferred to the Army for the duration of his tenure so that he could fight in the Vietnam War. In 1978 he retired from his command at Fort Hood, Texas. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the American Legion here in Mineral Wells, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father Leo Ferin Pierce and mother, Ruby West; brother, Donald Pierce; twin sister, Gayle; and a set of quadruplets who were the first ever in history to be born in the state of Washington. He is survived by his wife Shirley Marie Johnson-Pierce; stepson Kenneth Lee Carter, Sr., of Grafton, Hew Hampshire, who were with him at the time of his departure. Also surviving are his son, Michael David Pierce; daughter, Lori Luttrell; sister, Dixie Cooper of Kelso, WA.In place of flowers please send contributions to the Vietnam War Museum building fund, Mineral Wells, Texas, in honor of Retired Army Major Michael Dayle Pierce.Cremation is scheduled for Monday, 02 August 2010. Memorial service arrangements are pending. Notification of same will be sent by the Mineral Wells index at a future time.
