Michael David Cromeens

Michael David Cromeens was born October 6, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Estelle and Moe Cromeens. He passed away on June 8, 2019 in Mineral Wells, Texas. He moved to Mineral Wells in 1973.Growing up, Mike developed a lifetime love for baseball, building an impressive collection of baseball cards, which culminated in an autographed Mickey Mantle ball. He had a magnificent amateur baseball career, beginning with local Dallas Little League and retiring after a triumphant few seasons with the First Presbyterian Church League.After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965, he eventually made his way to Tyler Junior College, where he continued to bat out of his league and met his wife of 49 years Gail Hayes Cromeens. During his courtship he won over his future in laws with an ability of doing the splits in the air and touching his toes. After earning his Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, he began a successful business career. He managed ranching operations, petroleum exploration, feed stores, and a John Deere dealership, all the while working alongside his beloved father, Moe.Ever the gambler, he took a keen interest in stocks and investing, which recently included his investment in the Crazy Water Hotel project. Although early aptitude tests indicated that his future career would be as a Forest Service/Fire Watchman, he successfully tested and joined the ranks of MENSA, a fact he lorded over his family for years.In his 50's Mike, under the tutelage of a lifetime friend Zeke Foster, learned the art of woodworking. Throughout the years he graduated from making small bowls, boxes and cutting boards to fine furniture. Several pieces of his won Grand Champion at the Palo Pinto County Fair. Many of his friends and family will enjoy these pieces for years to come.Mike was a loving father, never turning down an opportunity to play catch, go plinking or fishing. He loved riding around with his boys looking at the country. A favorite pastime of his was pheasant hunting with his sons in Gruver, TexasMike was a wonderful grandfather, having recently built his grandsons their own "Huck Finn" island with bridge and dock. He enjoyed watching them play and fish in the water or the mud, depending on drought conditions. He enjoyed hearing their stories about the sports they were involved in and always stressed the importance of doing well in school.Mike's daughters-in-law were very fond of their father-in-law, as he was of them. They quickly developed an easy and loving relationship with each other and they loved to joke and rib each other with their wit and stories.Mike is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Gail; sons, Scott and wife Tera; Brian and wife Maggie; his grandsons Sterling and Hayes Cromeens, Halie Gear; Tyler, Sierra, Alex and Minerva Gear; sister, Paula and husband Frank; brother, Steve and wife Jenny. He is also survived by his Uncle William Cromeens, Aunts Billye Cromeens, Bobbye Cromeens, Betty Holt, Beth Roberson and Nell Ruthrauff, numerous nieces, nephews, devoted extended family and loyal friends.He was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle; father, Moe; his loving step-mother, Gloria; and brother, Doug.Pallbearers are: Don Crawford, Weldon Glidewell, Larry Ivy, Mike Radford, Richard Stuart and Tony Street. Honorary pallbearers are: his grandsons Hayes and Sterling Cromeens, Nathan Buschow, Wes Ellis, Tyler Gear, Mike Gremminger, Tom Key, Bobby Joe Mann, Clarence McDonald, Davis Pickinpaugh Mike Pruitt, and Fred Wilson.A special thank you to the ladies who sat with Mike during his stay at Palo Pinto Nursing and Rehab Ashley Davis, Schauntay Edwards, Cindy Lockwood, Katie Pruitt and Mary Rietmann and to the therapists who took care of Mike during his stay, Chelsea Ball, Hannah Dickerson and Davis Pickinpaugh.Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home, 302 W Hubbard Street, Mineral Wells, Texas from 5:00-7:00p.m. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10:00a.m. at Woodland Park Cemetery, 3600 S Oak Avenue, Mineral Wells, Texas.Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 300 NW 4th Avenue, Mineral Wells, Texas with Memorial Service to follow at 1:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 300 NW 4th Avenue, Mineral Wells, Texas.
