Melvin Weaver of Mineral Wells passed away at 1:00 AM on the 4th of July at Gentiva Hospice in Fort Worth. He was born on a farm outside of Cleveland Texas on July 24, 1923. He moved with his mother and brother to Houston in 1932. He graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1942, the same year the family moved to Fort Worth. In June of 1942 he enlisted in the U.S Army and started his service at Camp Wolters in Mineral Wells. During World War II he flew twenty-three combat missions in a B-24 over Germany while attached first to the 453rd and then the 458th Bombardment Group (Heavy) of the 8th Air Force stationed in England. He was discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps in October, 1945. He returned to Fort Worth with his wife, whom he married on January 6, 1943 in Sioux Falls South Dakota, and daughter. He began his career with Texas Electric Service Company that same year. He was called back to active duty in 1950 and served two years in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth and was again discharged in 1952. He then returned to his career with Texas Electric Service Company. In 1956 he was transferred to Wichita Falls Texas as an Administrative Assistant in Sales and Marketing with Texas Electric Service Company. He retired from the company in 1979. He and his wife left Wichita Falls after the April 10, 1979 tornado and eventually settled in Mineral Wells in July of 1980. Melvin was actively involved with the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and the Texas State Muzzle Loading Rifle Association acting as the Range Officer of the latter organization for many years. He was also an accomplished craftsman and built custom muzzle loading rifles which today are in many private collections and are used in competition match shooting. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Marjorie Karrer Weaver, and his parents J.C. Weaver and Billie Blair Weaver. He is survived by his brother Robert (Bob) T. Weaver of Sherman Texas, daughter Scheryl and husband Lawrence LoMonico of Saratoga Springs, New York, his son Jim Weaver and wife Palin Bree of Mineral Well, two grand children, Ann and husband Scott DuBois of Port Perry, Ontario, Catherine LoMonico and husband Steve Greenblatt of Saratoga Springs New York and four great grandchildren Sam, Antonia, Max & Zoe. He will be buried with his wife in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wichita Falls.
