Maxine Brooks

Maxine "Mike" Brooks was born April 20, 1921 in Roby, Texas to the late Harvey and Sarah (Coombs) Duke and passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 in a local hospital.Maxine had resided in the Possum Kingdom Lake and Mineral Wells, Texas region for the last 27 years. Prior to moving to Parker County, Maxine and her husband Roy (Hank) C Brooks lived in Big Springs, Texas for 42 years. She worked as a clerk for the Cosden Refinery in Big Springs for several years. Upon retirement, Maxine enjoyed her life as a housewife, and as a travel and fishing partner to Hank. She was happiest when they were traveling in their Holiday Rambler throughout the United States.Maxine and Hank are members of the First Baptist Church of Possum Kingdom and had celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary on April 5th.Survivors include her husband Roy "Hank" Brooks; son-in-law and wife, Jerry and Johnnie Brooks, of Hudson Oaks, Texas; nephew Earnest Lowe and great niece, JoEtna Lowe of Graford, Texas; and John Russell Lowe and family of Lubbock, Texas; great niece Kimberly Suggs and family, of Irving, Texas; great nephew Michael Suggs and family, of Apple Springs, Texas. There are also numerous other nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews to name.Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers William H Duke of Ada, Ok. Reese Duke of Ft Worth. Olin Duke of Centralia, Texas. Her niece Beverly Duke Suggs of Apple Springs, Texas. And a great niece, Lisa Suggs, of Apple Springs, Texas.Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Saturday, May 4 at First Baptist Church of Possum Kingdom with burial following at McAdams Cemetery.Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
