Mary A. Smith, 81, passed away April 17, 2016 at her home in Mineral Wells. She was born May 23, 1934 in Stinnett the daughter of Walter and Sarah Hodges Scott. She married Dan (Smiddy) Smith in Amarillo. She was a member of the Mineral Wells Women's Club, and the Mineral Wells Heritage Association having served as an officer for 6 years. She served as president of the Transit Authority for 6 years. She was a member of the Jr. History Club serving as president for 2 years. She was a volunteer for CASA and served on the board. She was an active member of the Democratic Party for 10 years, having gone to Austin as the state representative. She did lots of charitable acts such as feeding the poor and helping the needy. She worked with the Hope Shelter and the Senior Center. She gave many donations throughout the community always lending a helping hand for family, friends, co-workers, and complete strangers. She was known as the hat lady in the community because she was always seen wearing her beautiful Stetson beaver hat. Memorial services will be 2 PM Friday, April 22, 2016 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Walter and Karleen Clement, grandchildren: Michele, Brandy, and Reagan, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, her parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother, and son: Warren Clement.
