Mary Jordan

b. June 14, 1926

Mary Estelle Leona Jordan was born June 14, 1926 to the Reverend James Calaway Atkins and Ella Butler Atkins in Desdemona, Texas. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God playing music and singing in the church her whole life. There wasn't a string instrument that she couldn't play along with the piano. This talent was received from the Butler side of the family. Mary was self-taught and played by ear only learning to read music late in her life. Mary played and sang for many many weddings, funerals and church services. She loved the Lord from a very small child all the way up until when Jesus called her home to be with him on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the age of 90 years and 6 months. When Mary was 16 she met and married the love of her life George W Jordan. They were married on July 24, 1942 in Post,Texas. He became a minister for the Church of God and together they pastored churches in Texas until he retired and they moved to Mineral Wells in 1963. They had a loving and happy marriage of 58 years until George's death on July 31, 1999. Together they had three children, 2 daughters and 1 son and she was step mother to George's son Floyd. Mary was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-great grandmother, and enjoyed that role very much. Mary worked as office manager for Texeramics Inc. for 25 years until her retirement. She was a member of the National Secretary Association, an avid participant of the Mineral Wells Senior Center and of course attended church every time the door was open. She prided herself as never missing a Church of God camp meeting her whole life until her health made it impossible to attend any longer. Even though she was confined physically to live in the Palo Pinto Nursing Home, she always looked forward to visiting her pastor, the Reverend Jerrell Tomlin, each and every day and he was there almost every day and talked about the Lord. Pastor Tomlin set up a Sunday school in the nursing home and she never missed a Sunday morning. She loved the Lord so very much. She was preceded in death by her parents the Reverend James C. and Ella Atkins, a brother Ernest Atkins, Husband George W. Jordan, Step son Floyd R. Jordan, Granddaughter Jatonne Adcox, son in-law William C "Bill" Eubanks, and Grandson in-law Dick Siegel. Mary is survived by two daughters, Lottie Eubanks of Mineral Wells, Laverne Caudill of Mineral Wells, one son George Michael "Mike" Jordan and Wife Tina of Weatherford Texas, and daughter-in-law Arvetta Jordan, three grandsons, Chad Jordan and Wife Cody, Adam Jordan and Wife Vanessa, Brandon Harrington, two granddaughters Debbye Irwin and Husband Jeff, and Jeanne Siegel, three great grandsons, Joey Mathews, Evan Mathews, Chase Jordan, two great granddaughters, Jaycie Gonzales and husband Kolten, and Melody Jordan. Two great-great grandsons, Hayden and Hudson Gonzales, and one great-great granddaughter Hadley Gonzales, four sisters Eunice Bass, Edythe Curry, Eloyce Davis and Husband J.W., Evelyn Wiggins and Husband Leon, and one brother Edward Atkins and wife Ruth, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Baum Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Services will be 10 AM Thursday, at the Mineral Wells Church of God with the Reverend Jerrell Tomlin officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells.
