Surrounded by family, Truitt Newman (77) of Graford,TX gained his wings on December 18th, 2024 after a long illness. He was born on June 3, 1947 to Litt and Ruth Newman in Mineral Wells, Tx. He attended Graford Elementary before his family moved to Wichita Falls, where he graduated from Valley View High School in 1965. In 1966, he met his future wife, Judy, at Annie’s Cafe in Graford. The two married in 1968 and shared 56 years of marriage.
Following six years of work with Southern Airways, he began his career with the Brazos River Authority in 1972. After serving the B.R.A. for thirty-nine and a half years, he retired as the power house supervisor in December of 2011. In retirement, he enjoyed tying flies, tinkering on cars, and socializing at the 50s Club. Loved ones remember him fondly as “Pop”, a kind-hearted, fun-loving, jokester.
He is survived by wife Judy; daughter Christy Hendershott (Chris), son Wilson Newman (Ruth); granddaughter Morgan Rapier (Matthew), grandsons Josh and Jason; great-granddaughter Mary Alice Rapier; nephew Alan Newman, along with other numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and sidekicks, Bubba and Tuco. He was preceded in death by his brother Truman Newman, mother and father Litt and Ruth Newman, and in-laws Margarete and Boots Jackson.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 20th from 6 - 8 PM, at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Graveside services will be at McAdams Cemetery at Possum Kingdom Lake on Saturday, December 21st at 10 AM.
