Martha Lee Cowlishaw Carter

June 14, 1948 — September 18, 2022

In Loving Memory of Martha Lee (Cowlishaw) Carter

Martha was born in Ballinger, Texas to Herbert Lee “Pete” and Marie (Killingsworth) Cowlishaw on June 14, 1948 and moved on to her heavenly home on September 18, 2022.

Wise and generous, Martha attended Angelo State University and achieved distinct honors in a long career in Human Resources. She was well-respected by both senior management and employees alike; trusted for her ability to quickly mediate sound solutions to complex problems with a kind heart. On several occasions, she stretched out her hand to offer needy employees financial support from her personal accounts.

She married Charles Carter on May 14, 1966, sharing 55 of her best years with him. Her dedication extended to her children, who rise up and praise her for many years of wise counsel. (Proverbs 31:28). Her family was her first priority, and she found exceptional joy in a hands-on relationship with her grandchildren who each made her very proud.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Emma Lou Smith; brother, Tommy Cowlishaw; sister, Betty Jo Moser; and sister, Judy Marie Lippe.

Martha is survived by her husband, Charles of Mineral Wells; her son, Andy Lee Carter and wife, Jeanne, and their children Casey Carter, K.C. Walls, and Kash Walls of Red Oak; her daughter, Jill Marie Pollard, and husband Travis, and their children David Lamb and Lucy Marie Pollard of Weatherford. Also surviving are Martha’s siblings: Jim Cowlishaw and wife, Betty, of Paris; and Ruby Wearden and husband, Charles, of Ballinger; brother-in-law, David Carter, and wife Donna, of Garner; sister-in-law, Sue Gillar, of Austin; and brother-in-law, Fred Lippe, and wife, Debbie of Ballinger.
