Margie Lee Smith was born March 20, 1915 in Mineral Wells,TX to John W. Edmondson & Etta Mae Turner. Her maternalgrandparents were Caleb Newton Turner & Virginia Lee Perryman. Her paternal grandparents were Stlth ReeceEdmondson & Mary Hittson. The Edmondson & the Hittson families were among the founding families of Palo PintoCounty in Texas. Margie's great-uncle, grandfather, uncle & father, all have served as sheriff of Palo Pinto County since1874She worked as a secretary at AlprodCo where she met the love of her life, Oran H. Smith. They marriedin 1951 & moved to Ft. Worth where Oran worked for Bell Helicopter for 30 yrs. After his retirement,they moved back to Mineral Wells to be near her sisters, Mrs. Juanita Ladd, Mrs. Jeanette Sullivan & Mrs.Tommye Porter.Margie was a loving wife & mother, devoted to her family. She enjoyed gardening & grew beautifulflowers in her yard. She & Oran were active in the Millsap Masonic Lodge for many years while heserved as Worshipful Master. Margie & Oran celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2001with their friends & family at the Northside Baptist Church. Following Oran's death in 2005, Margiemoved to the Crazy Water Retirement Hotel where she became reacquainted with many old friends.She enjoyed her apartment there until she moved into a nursing home In Arlington, TX.Services will be 2 PM Monday, April 7, 2014 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 1-2 PM at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by husband, Oran H. Smith and a great-great-grandson, Aden Pierce.Survivors are son, Larry Smith & wife, Jane of Westcliffe, CO; daughter, Darlene & husband, LJ Pughof Ft. Worth, TX. Five grandchildren; Jason Smith & Rachael Smith Fitch, both of Kerrville, TX, LisaButler of St. Pete Beach, FL, Becky Pierce & David Pierce, both of Granbury, TX. Thirteengreat-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.She had several nieces & nephews who would visit with her & phone often; Bob & Teri Sullivan,Mike & Jenny Sullivan, Norma Yates, Gary Porter & Rick Edmondson, Oran Lou Jones & MayEddleman. Special cousin, Glenn Lacy.
