Margaret Lucille Briscoe Harrington, 88, passed away Friday, May 14, 2017, in Mineral Wells, Texas.Funeral services will be Monday, May 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Eleventh Avenue Church with Dr. Mark Bumpus officiating and assisted by Pastor Charles Mayes..Pallbearers will be Glenn Baker, Robert Baker, Darrell Glover, Harold Glover, Jack Houghton, and John Shires.Margaret was born on December 22, 1928, in Graford, Texas to Arthur Briscoe and Cora Whorley Briscoe. When Margaret was eight years old, her mother died of tuberculosis. Later her father married Maude White, and Maude reared Margaret and her brother, Billy, as if they were her own.The family moved from Graford to Mineral Wells in 1941, and Margaret graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1946. During the last year of high school, Margaret met Alek Harrington, and they were married on July 20, 1947. Margaret and Alek made their home together in the Progress Community south of Mineral Wells for almost 60 years.Margaret's life was characterized by devotion to her family and her faith. In addition to her role as housewife and mother, she was actively involved in many of areas service at Fairview Baptist Church. In 1980, she and her husband, Alek, began attending Eleventh Avenue Church, where she remained active until the decline in her health.She also found pleasure in working part time for Marsden's Shoe Store, and Sarah Jane's Antiques and Collectibles.Survivors include a son, Larry and a daughter, Pat of Mineral Wells; a brother, Billy Briscoe, of Mineral Wells;/ three sister-in-laws: Jean Harrington and Freddie Harrington of Mineral Wells and Letha Harrington of Tyler; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family members Bobby and Aneta Baker, Glenn, Wendy, Brady, and Ryan Baker, and Jana Baker. The family wishes to thank a special great-niece, Debbie Wengland for the kind, compassionate way she cared for Margaret.Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Alek, in 2003 and her parents.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eleventh Avenue Church or the charity of your choice.
