Loretta Kay Tunnell, age 81, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 29th, 2021. Kay passed away from COVID with her husband, Jerry, by her side. It was too early as she had more travels planned.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells on Friday, April 9th at two o’clock. Interment will take place in Earth, Texas, on Saturday, April 10th at four o’clock.
Kay was born on April 27, 1939 in Plainview, Texas, to the late Johnie M. and Ida Mae Haberer. She grew up in the Springlake-Earth area and graduated from Springlake-Earth High School in 1957. She was voted Most Beautiful in her graduating class and immediately after graduation married Jerry Nelson Tunnell on June 1, 1957. Kay and Jerry made their home and raised their family in Littlefield. Texas. In the early seventies, she opened Kay’s, a small boutique clothing store, which she operated until they moved to Beeville, Texas, in 1984. In Beeville, Kay was an administrative assistant to the Director of Employees for Beeville ISD until the couple moved to Mineral Wells in 2004. Kay was raised Baptist, but upon marrying Jerry, she became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Earth, and then Littlefield. As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells, Kay worked as a volunteer in the Pastor’s Office, performing several functions, including bookwork. First and foremost, Kay loved her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to read and travel abroad.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie and Ida Mae, and her brothers Ronnie, Tony, and Gary Don.
Kay is survived by her husband Jerry; children Tonya Place and husband Allen, Vicki Gregory and husband Eddie, David Tunnell, and Kelli Huseman and husband Troy; grandchildren Ashley, Amber, Nick, Shea, McKamie, Ethan, Kevin, Kaylee, Kenzi, Brady, Carson, and five great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 301 NE First Street, Mineral Wells, Texas, 76067.
