A funeral Service for Lon H. Williams, (78), will be held Monday, October 10, 2016 at Southside Church of Christ in Mineral Wells, William Eudy, Southside minister officiating at 10am. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Annex from 6-8pm. A minister-businessman, Williams was a long time resident of Palo Pinto County. Lon completed his stay on God's earth departing on October 6, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hayden and Tommie Williams of Mineral Wells.Williams will be speaking at his own funeral. No other details are known. William Eudy, Southside Minister, said "I have no idea of what he will say. I guess we will all know at the funeral service.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue, of Mineral Wells; six children: two sons, Dayle and wife Becky Williams of Fort Worth, Jeff and wife Quin Williams of Milsap; four daughters: Cynthia Williams of Fort Worth, Kim Williams Caley of Fort Worth, Kim and husband Chris McLelland of Aledo, and Mariah Gopffarth and her husband Neil of Mineral Wells. Three brothers: Mike and Connie Williams of Mineral Wells, Monte and Deanna Williams of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Ken and Donna Williams of Possum Kingdom lake. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Williams is also survived by five foreign-sponsored adopted, now adult children: Fikirte Radae, India; Juan Carlos Velara, Mexico; Yoki Debi Lana, Indonesia; Maria Isabel Vasquez, Mexico; and Nguen De Quang, North Vietnam; and eighteen abandoned orphan children at the Church of Christ Abandoned Baby Center, in kisii, and Egetuki Villiage, Kenya, Africa.Lon was born in Graham, Texas, March 8, 1938, and became owner of radio stations and newspapers. He began his radio and newspaper career while in high school. He purchased his hometown radio station KSWA in 1961. He moved to Mineral Wells in 1963 as owner of KORC. Williams Media also eventually owned radio stations in Killeen-Fort Hood, Sherman-Denison, Seminole-Hobbs, and Lawton, Oklahoma.He owned a Palo Pinto County publication- the Advance for several Years. Williams Media newspaper ownership expanded to include: Burkburnett, Granbury, Lake Whitney, Clifton, Gatesville, Copperas Cove, Benbrook, White Settlement, Saginaw, Crowley, Aledo-Willow Park, Texas. Selling all his media interests in 1992, he purchased and operated Century 21 offices at Possum Kingdom Lake and Mineral Wells until 1996. He founded the Lake Country Sun at Possum Kingdom Lake in 1994.He served as a minister and Bible teacher at Church of Christ congregations in Perrin, Mineral Wells, Gordonville, Texas and Colbert, Oklahoma. He and "Mum Sue" as his wife Sue is affectionally called by her "foreign children" were active in mission work in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, North Korea, and other third-world countries working through Fort Worth and California Churches of Christ and Southside Church in Mineral Wells. He and his wife were active in Christian Children's Fund, World Vision, Operation Smile, and Feed The Children. He supported and served as a driver for Meal On Wheels in Mineral Wells. Until his death, Williams served as the World Outreach minister of World Christian Bible Ministries with world headquarters at Southside Church of Christ. World Christian teaches "the least of the brethren" of Jesus - those in prison. World Christian in teaching over 3,500 inmates in 44 prisons in Texas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. The ministry teaches Christ to all in God's World and provides Bibles to all who never owned one, many having never seen one. World Christian provides care, medicines, food, assistance to starving orphans and helpless elderly widows. It establishes small businesses to assist the young and widows to develop a skill and become self-sufficient by becoming employed. Projects include: Christian Sewing Training Centers, Christians Beauty Training Schools, Tilapia-raising Fish Farms, Poultry and Hog raising, and Church family gardens. No World Christian teacher is paid. All funds are used to help those in desperate need. World Christian also supports many of the vast number of Southside ministries in Palo Pinto County. Services will be conducted by William Eudy, minister of Southside Church of Christ. Burial Will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery.
