Lloyd Eugene Stevens passed at his home on Sunday, October 2, 2011. Services will be 1 PM Saturday, October 8, 2011 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. Burial will follow in Santo North Cemetery. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. Lloyd was the son of Logan and Maudie May Jones Stevens, born in Lone Camp on October 30, 1910. He spent most of his childhood in the Santo/Lone Camp area. He married Gladys Mae Motley on May 20, 1927 in Parker County and they were happily married for 73 years before Gladys passed away in August of 2002. Lloyd worked at Santo Bank and owned Santo Telephone Co. for several years. Lloyd also did construction work, sold real estate and insurance. He retired from Civil Service at Ft. Wolters in 1975. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army, and was a Master Mason at Santo Lodge for 75 years. Lloyd loved being with family and friends, he enjoyed fishing and loved traveling, he and Gladys had traveled to 27 foreign countries and all 50 states many times. He also enjoyed taking a whole lot of pictures of his and Gladys's adventures. Lloyd became a Christian at Irving Street Baptist Church in Cleburne in 1923 at the age of 13 at a revival service. Lloyd joined Santo Baptist Church and was ordained a Deacon on November 30, 1937. Lloyd and Gladys built a beautiful home on the hill on Morningside Drive in Mineral Wells. They moved there membership to First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells and Lloyd was an ordained deacon there for years. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Gladys, sisters: Ellie Marsden and Reba Henderson, brother Floyd Stevens, and brother-in-law Herman Motley. He is survived by his daughter Betty Tapscott of Katy, grandsons Paul Tapscott and wife Charlene and Steve Tapscott of Houston, granddaughter Tammy Vaselk and husband Everett of Katy, eight great-grandchildren of the Houston, Austin, and Katy area, brother Sam Ed and wife Lattie of Lamesa, sister-in-law Mary Motley, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. The family would like to thank Palo Pinto Hospital Hospice and also all the faithful care givers for all the wonderful care through the years.
