Linda Gayle Robinson Smith, 82, of Mineral Wells, Texas, formerly of Perrin, Texas passed from this life January 27, 2022 in a Mineral Wells Nursing Home, after being released from Palo Pinto General Hospital, with many underlaying health conditions.
Linda was born, January 3, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas to Herman ‘Rob’ Dodson Robinson and Birdenia Spaulding Robinson. She was the second of seven children born to the couple. Both parents preceded her in death.
Linda spent her younger years in Springtown until the early 1950s, when the family moved to Jacksboro. Linda graduated from Jacksboro in 1958. After graduating she worked in the Tax Assessor-Collector office at the Jack County Courthouse. It was there that Linda met and married Truitt Cranford of Perrin, Texas. She was a Perrin resident for 40 years. She was a faithful member of the Perrin Church of Christ.
Linda instantly became the mother of Truitt’s 3 girls, Kay, Franci and Pam. In her extra time she was not idle; as a bible class teacher, homemaker, seamstress for many, gardener, farmer and livestock hand; there was no job to big or small for her to accomplish. After helping raise 3 girls, there were 7 grandchildren added to the family. After Truitt’s sudden death in 1986, she was appointed to finish his term as Jack County Commissioner, Precinct 2, which then extended to another term.
Linda married Floyd Jones and added more children to her family. Floyd had 2 sons, Cassey and Cody, also daughter Tanya; 7 more grandchildren followed. The family was involved with Stephenville Foster Home. Several years they brought children home to stay for Christmas break. One of those boys/men, Phillip Harlow, stayed in touch; talking to her the day before she passed to encourage her. Linda also restored a railroad house from the 1800’s in Santo, Texas and operated The Green Onion Cafe.
Linda continued to pursue new things; she operated a daycare, taught children in daycare at All Saints Hospital, went on mission trips to Mexico to help underprivileged children and became an Advocate for children through CASA. She was able to touch many children’s lives through her endeavors and she made a difference for many.
Linda was not done yet; Gerald Wayne Smith, from Bryson, Texas; had been her pen pal while he served in the Navy. Gerald came back into her life after a 55 year interlude. They married at North Oak Church of Christ, in Mineral Wells, were they continued to be faithful members.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Herman Glen Robinson, Gary Wayne Robinson, Phillip Terry Robinson; husbands, Truitt Cranford and Floyd Jones; 2 step-daughters, Kay Cranford Woods, Frances ‘Franci‘ Cranford Palmer; and 2 grandsons, Kevin Glover, Brian Glover.
