After a brief battle with cancer, friend of the community, Levon Anders, departed this life onSaturday, February 22, 2014. He was born on August 25, 1936 in Point, Texas to Ruby WertsAnders and Frank Anders, Jr. He was the oldest of six children born to Ruby and Frank. Heattended primary school in Point and secondary school in Mineral Wells where he graduatedfrom Dunbar High School. While a student at Dunbar, he became a member of Mt. HermonBaptist Church where he served in several capacities over the years including as chairman of theDeacon Board and a Sunday School teacher for many years.While in high school, he started his working career as a busboy at the Baker Hotel in MineralWells. He worked his way up to become a waiter. However, always having an entrepreneurialspirit, Levon went on to start and own many businesses throughout the years including Met-Fab.After graduating from Dunbar High School, he married Effie Newsome. To this union, sevenchildren were born.Levon was very active in the Mineral Wells community and the state of Texas through his workwith Dunbar Neighborhood Council where he served as the Executive Director for over 40 years.He was also Master Mason and member of Mineral Star Lodge # 116. He went on to become a33rd Degree Mason and member of the T.G. Givens Consistory #352.A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Mount Hermon BaptistChurch located at 616 SE Fourth Avenue in Mineral Wells. Burial will follow in Pollard Cemetery.
