Lester Lee Davis, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend went to be with his faithful Lord and Savior on July 31, 2011 with his family by his side. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 4th, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Reverends Bobby Williams and David Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Perrin Memorial Cemetery, Perrin, Texas. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Lester was born January 6, 1924 in New Castle, Texas. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Central European Campaign with Company A of the 97th Chemical Mortar Battalion of the U.S. Army. During his enlistment he received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, EAME Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Victory Ribbon. Following his return to the U.S., he met and married the love of his life, Bessie Lorine Davis, his wife of 61 years. They are members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. Lester became an accomplished automotive mechanic, and later, a helicopter mechanic at Southern Airways at Fort Wolters, Texas earning his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license. Lester loved fishing and bowling, but most of all he loved his family. After his retirement, he became a crossing guard at Lamar Elementary School where his love of children and helping others blossomed into a newfound devotion. Survivors include his wife, Bessie Lorine Davis; daughters: Carol Jones and husband, Randy, of Cypress, TX and Debbie Mann and husband, Jim, of Mineral Wells; son Danny Davis and wife, Lauren, of Heath, TX; grandchildren: Michael Jones and family of The Woodlands, TX; Kellie Phillips and family of Cypress, TX; Scott Mann and family of Yoakum, TX; Jason Mann and fiancée of Decatur, TX; Zane Davis and Weston Davis of Heath, TX; great-grandchildren: Connor and Grace Jones; Taylor, Carson, and Alexandra Phillips; Shaylee and Dylan Mann.
