Lawrence Purefoy was born on October 3, 1921 in Oran, Texas. He passed this life on July 5, 2016 at the age of 94. He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ in Mineral Wells. Lawrence served as an elder at the East Main Church of Christ in Gatesville and the Graford Church of Christ. He served many years as the president of the Oran Cemetery Association and as a trustee for the Graford Cemetery Association. Lawrence's first adult job was for Poston Dry Goods. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands on the island of Kodiak. He was discharged as a sergeant. Lawrence worked in retail dry goods in Mineral Wells and Ranger and eventually owned his own store in Gatesville. He retired and moved to Graford in 1976. He sold cars for Powell Dunaway Ford for a few years. He ranched fulltime for 40 years in Oran. A visitation will be held on July 7, 2016 at Baum Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home Chapel from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held on July 8, 2016 at the Southside Church of Christ in Mineral Wells at 2pm. Lawrence is survived by his wife Modena Privitt Purefoy of Graford, daughter Judy Dworsky and husband Edmond of Weatherford, stepsons Wendell Privitt of Mineral Wells and Galen Privitt of Abilene. Lawrence and Modena shared 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, sister Anna Mask of Weatherford and many loving nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by parents J.H. (Hallie) and Prudie Purefoy, wife Frances Baker Purefoy, sister Lola Williams, and brothers H.G. Purefoy and John Purefoy.
