L. A. Ladd

June 21, 1916 — January 1, 1900

L. A. "Bob" Ladd, 93, passed away August 29, 2009 in a Fort Worth hospital. He was born June 21, 1916 in Mineral Wells the son of Gus Amos and Rosa Elvira Stubblefield Ladd. He married Dorothy Mays on September 1, 1939 in Mineral Wells. He was a lifetime resident of Mineral Wells. During WWII, Bob drove a Greyhound bus, transporting the troops. After the war, he owned a Western Auto store in Granbury and then founded the Hilltop Store north of Mineral Wells. During Vietnam he worked for Southern Airways as a helicopter mechanic until it closed. For the past 17 years, Bob has worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Additionally, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells. Services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Dianne and Larry Birkelbach of Midland, granddaughter and her husband: Susan and Courtney Cowden of Kansas City, Missouri, nephew: Jack Ladd of Midland, nieces: Ida Sue Grossman of Galveston and Pam Aycock of Gun Barrel, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, his Wal-Mart and church families. He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy, on November 14, 1991as well as his brothers: Granville, Devere, J.B., Ross, Durwood and his sister, Verna.
