Kate Burgan Baker passed from this life and went to meet her Heavenly Father June 11, 2011. Kate was born February 16, 1914 in Barney, Iowa to John and Mary Elizabeth Hamlin Burgan being the ninth often children. Her life will be celebrated at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner June 14,2011 at 10:00 A.M. with visitation Monday, June 13,2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Pallbearers will be Chuck Hogan, Richard Stillwell, Rodney Butler, Jud Bruce Lively, James Elliston, and John Rollins.Kate grew up on a farm in Iowa. After graduating as salutatorian of her class, she went to work for the Gospel Trumpet Company. In 1936 she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Baker and they started their long happy life in Honolulu, Hawaii where Jim was stationed at Pearl Harbor. Their daughter was born there just prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. They remained there until their move to California in 1948, where Jim started a long career with Hiller Aviation. In 1958, the company moved them to Fort Wolters. Jim and Kate were very active in the Senior Center and did volunteer work with the Government Commodities Program. Kate is a member of Eleventh Avenue Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was the church treasurer for 13 years and a member of the Ladies Bible Class. Kate was an avid reader, loved to sew, and to also work crossword puzzles.She is survived by daughter, Coralee Beasley of Mineral Wells, grandsons, Kevin Beasley of Irving, Craig Beasley (Risha) of Midlothian, great granddaughters, Summer Beasley Richoux (Robby) of Aubrey, Megan Beasley (Steven) of Aubrey and Parker Beasley of Midlothian, two great great grandchildren, Riley and Skyler Richoux of Aubrey. Kate also leaves one sister Mary Rachel Byrum of Anderson, Indiana, many nephews and nieces. She will be missed by many special friends including Mary and John Dorsey. She was preceeded in death by her husband Jim of 62 years, her parents, four brothers, five sisters, a nephew and two nieces.The family would like to extend special thanks to Sue Campbell, Tina Nunn and Noreen Rollings who have made Kate's last six months so comfortable, as well as, the staff of Palo Pinto Home Health and Hospice.
