John Wayne Whitehead, 83, joined his loving wife, Wanda, in Heaven with our Lord on Aug. 1, 2017, in Fort Worth, surrounded by loved ones. Graveside service is 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Valley. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Pallbearers are John Wayne Slobodien, Edward Slobodien Jr., Brett Slobodien, Garion Moreno, Jordan Anderson, Zack Slobodien, Johnathan Young and James Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Anderson and Anthony Young. John Wayne was born Jan. 31, 1934, in Granbury, Texas, to Elmer T. Whitehead and Mattie Pearl Whitehead. He married Wanda De Louis Lindley on May 15, 1951.They were married 49 years. They had six children, Darriel, Randell, Edwina, Belinda, Keith and Melissa; 14 grandchildren, Melinda, John Wayne, Rikkie, Jessica, Nova, Elishia, Chalise, Edward (Bubba), Keishia, Anthony, Brandy, Chelsea, Johnathan and Rachel; and 29 great-grandchildren. Wayne was an avid fisherman. He loved fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He had a rock on the Brazos River that is named for him - "Wayne's Rock" was one of his favorite fishing holes. Wayne was a roofer for Queens Roofing for over 30 years. Wayne is survived by brother, Clinton Whitehead, and sister, Leta Lindley; brothers-in-law, Dewayne and R.D.Lindley; sisters-in-law, Sharron, Big Shirley, Ruby and Lil Shirley. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Wanda Whitehead; sons, Darriel and Randell Whitehead; daughter, Melissa; father, Elmer, and mother, Mattie Pearl; brothers, Richard and Billy Joe; sister, Inez; in-laws, Delmer Lindley and Helen Wheeler; brother-in-law, Virgil Lindley; and granddaughter, Chalise Whitehead.
