John Uptergrove

John Alan Uptergrove, Sr. passed from his life here on Earth on January 8, 2019. He was born October 8, 1960, to Chester Lee and Alice Funderburg Uptergrove, Jr., in Midwest City, Oklahoma. John and his family moved to Mineral Wells in August of 2002. He was the assistant principal at Travis Elementary for 4 years before having to medically retire because of an injury. He loved working in education and always had a special place in his heart for the teachers that he worked with and the students he encountered. John leaves behind his wife, Susan Tapp Uptergrove of the home; daughter, Penelope Uptergrove of Fort Worth; daughter, Melissa Hatley and husband Chris of Mineral Wells; daughter, Rachel Diaz and husband Oscar of Weatherford; son, John Uptergrove, Jr. and wife Brittany of Coppell; 8 beloved grandchildren whom he loved and adored: Gavin, Madeline, Jude, Xander and Finn Hatley; Addison and Hannah Diaz; and Mason Uptergrove. He is also survived by his mother, Alice Uptergrove Brewer and husband Jim; 2 brothers, William Uptergrove and wife Kathi and Don Uptergrove and wife Nan; sister, Patricia Vaughn and husband Larry; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind many friends that he has met through his life's journey. He is preceded in death by his father, Chester Uptergrove. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at Baum-Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home. John will be buried in Willow Cemetery in Willow, Oklahoma.
