John Sherrod Rasmussen passed peacefully from this life March 30, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Sherrod was born September 9, 1957 to John Lawrence and Twila Vaudeen Rasmussen in Wichita Falls, Texas. Sherrod was baptized into Christ in June, 1969. On June 25, 1975, he met the love of his life, Anita Carol Putman. They were married September 3, 1976 in Mineral Wells, Texas where they lived most of their married life. They were blessed with a son, Philip Jared, and two daughters, Naomi Michal and Rachel Apphia.
He was fondly called Dad, Pops, PaPa, Poppa Bear and Poppa Smurf. He worked 26 years at C&B Associates and retired from Chemical Weed Control after almost 20 years. He loved spending time with family, playing "42", Canasta, and many other card games, going deer hunting (even though he always bragged that Anita, lovingly called Annie Oakley, could outshoot him any day of the week and always killed more deer than him), and worshipping with his church family at Highway Church of Christ in Millsap. He was an avid Civil War buff, having collected 2 powder horns and ammunition used in the Civil War, a wide variety of memorabilia and books on it.
Sherrod was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law Buddy Putman and brother-in-law Bob Burr. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, son Jared of Granbury, daughter Naomi Hall and husband Eddie of Mineral Wells, and daughter Rachel Highbarger and husband Brad of Weatherford, grandchildren Jacob Rasmussen of Granbury, Richard Hall of Graham, Destiney Hall of Mineral Wells, Courtney McAllister of Fort Hood, Sierra Garcia of Mineral Wells, Amber Hall of Mineral Wells, Ashlynn Kern of Weatherford, Nevaeh Highbarger of Aledo and 9 great-grandchildren, sister Quenna Burr of Wichita Falls, mother-in-law Frieda Putman of Mineral Wells, mother Twila of Burkburnet, and a host of family and friends. Services are 10 AM Monday in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel.
Burial will be at Sturdivant Community Cemetery.
