John L. Griffin, Jr., 86 of Mineral Wells, died Jan.8, 2012.Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 14, at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery, in Graham. Visitation is 6-8 Friday in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. J. L. was born in Saratoga, Texas, the son of Maggie Mae and John L. Griffin, Sr. He met the love of his life, Jaunita Warren, and they were married just shy of 60 Years before her passing in December. J. L. graduated from the University of Texas in 1949 and was a high school English teacher for ten years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He worked for the Steck Vaughn Publishing Company as a school textbook salesman for 25 years until his retirement in 1990. He has been a resident of Mineral Wells since 1966 when he moved his family there to be closer to relatives. He has been a member of First Baptist Church Mineral Wells for 45 years, attending the Young Men's Bible Class and helping with the maintenance and upkeep of the church's mission house for many years. In his retirement years he enjoyed "puttering" around the house, working at his desk, participating in church activities and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by many. He is survived by his daughter, JoJoyce and husband Donn Wisdom of San Antonio; daughter, Jean and husband Marlin Harris of Marbury, AL; grandchildren, Allyson and husband Ryan Vamplew, Jonathan Wisdom, Marlin and wife Caroline Harris, Katelyn Harris and DeLena Harris; sister-in-law, Noma Jo Glazner, nieces and nephews Cecelia Staten, Joe and wife Connie Glazner, Genie Lee Greer, Ricky Warren and M.A. Warren along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, a sister, Elaine Green and his dear wife, Jaunita. In lieu of Flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your charity of choice or the Paraguay Baptist Medical Center Foundation.
