John William Evans

John William Evans, 91, of Glen Rose, Texas, passed away August 31, 2016. He was born on November 2, 1924 in Webb, Tallahatchie County, Mississippi to Ira Lee and Grace Truman Jordan Evans. He married Asa Inage on March 18, 1952 in Tokyo, Japan.John joined the Marines in 1944 and served in the South Pacific with the 1st Marine division during World War II. He enlisted in the U. S. Army at the start of the Korean War serving in Korea and Japan. He drove an ambulance in the Korean War saving many lives. He was awarded two Bronze Stars during his time of service and retired from the Army after 20+ years of service in 1965.After retirement, he worked for Southern Airways as a helicopter mechanic. He continued his career with the City of Mineral Wells as Head of Maintenance for Parks and Recreation. He moved to Glen Rose after his retirement and continued to work as a volunteer for Riverbend Baptist Retreat when needed.Following his Father and Grandfather, John became a Master Mason in 1969 in Mineral Wells Lodge, 611. He became a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1970 in the Valley of Dallas.John Evans was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Edward Leroy Evans, sisters, Juanita Yvonne Brooks, Alece Fay Barley, and Edna Ann Callendar. He is survived by his sons, Robert and wife, Lela Evans, John Paul and wife, Laura Evans, grandchildren, Katharine and husband, Jared Marchant, Branson "Bo" and wife, Coy Evans, Noah Evans, Carrie Evans, and great grandchildren, Eryn and Kenneth Marchant and Hazel Evans, sisters, Kat Nixon, Lynn Moyer, Jo Lucas, and was known as "Uncle Son" to his many nieces and nephews.Services will be 3 PM Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-3 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children - Dallas would be appreciated, https://community.tsrhc.org
